Salt vs. Chlorine Pools in South Louisiana: What Holds Up
Salt systems are popular across Gretna and Westwego, but our water and weather change the math. Here is how the two compare in real Westbank conditions.
Salt is gentler week to week
Salt pools produce chlorine continuously, so the water feels softer and levels stay steadier between visits. For families swimming most days in July, that consistency is a real benefit.
The tradeoff is equipment. Cells wear out, typically in three to five years here, and they need cleaning when scale builds up on the plates.
Chlorine is simpler to recover
When a pool goes green after a storm, a traditional chlorine pool can be shocked hard and immediately. Salt cells cannot generate chlorine fast enough to recover a bloom on their own, so they get shocked manually anyway.
